Adam Sage:

First of all, great presentation! Adam went through the purpose, process, final product and discussions very logically and all the important points are delivered accurately. I also believe that the project serves a very meaningful goal and and could potentially have practical applications outside the classroom.

The most important choice that Adam made in this visualization project is the type of graph to visualize: and he did a good job because timeline is clearly among the most reasonable graph to deliver the trend and information to the patient/viewer. Another thing that I like a lot is that by default the timeframe is a week: a month is certainly too long for the user to see the details, especially on a phone screen. I can definitely see how users would love this design.

Regarding room for improvement, I think there are mainly three things: 1) I’m not sure if decimal points are necessary in the mean arterial blood pressure graph, for patients probably don’t especially care; 2) as was mentioned in class on the day of presentation, it’s probably better to use background color instead of check mark and cross marks to show whether or not the user took medicine at a certain day; 3) since the visualization is delivered in an App, the experience would be even better if we let the users zoom in and out to adjust the timeframe (an activity tracker I use does this and I like that feature a lot). Also, although the goal of this project is quite meaningful and practical, there are relatively few variables. Putting more variables into the graph can probably make the task more complex given its status as a midterm project.

Overall, I think Adam did a great job and I like it a lot!

First of all, the visualization project serves a very meaningful end. After the presentation I did feel like I gained lots of insights on this important topic of refugees. Another thing I like a lot is that the project as a whole delivered many important messages, such as which country took the most refugees, and which country has the highest refugee/population rate. A single visualization wouldn’t be sufficient to say all those things. Also, since the number of variables in the visualization is quite large, they are complex and challenging enough as a midterm project.

Regarding room for improvement, I’d say the choice of bubble graph perhaps isn’t ideal, and for 3 reasons: 1) humans are not so good at accurately judging the areas of two circles so it’s kind of hard to compare the values represented by two circles; 2) It’s difficult to find the value of a particular country that is not a major refugee taker, since the smaller circles are not named and have the same color; 3) it wasn’t clear what the colors of the spheres are supposed to represent.

Overall I think Chana Kraus-Friedberg did an amazing job in creating this visualization project. Love it!
