Welcome to Hyattsville Nurturing Parents

Thank you for your interest in our group! There are lots of things about us we would like you to know. So please, read on and discover what, exactly, you've gotten yourself into. It is good stuff.

Baby Meals for New Parents

When new ones arrive, who wouldn't love to have a couple of nights a week where the task of figuring out what's for dinner is taken care of for you? As "do unto others" is such a lovely way to conduct oneself, we try to honor new parents with a few carefree meals soon after a new baby is born.

Interested? Contact one of the organizers and also create an entry on the HNParents calendar located on Groups.io HNParents site (https://hnparents.groups.io/g/HNParents/calendar), listing your name and due date. Then, when the baby comes make sure to let the organizers know. They will send out a call for volunteers and find out if there are any dietary restrictions or preferences you'd like made known.

Once you've received your meals we urge you to enjoy the food (and the break) and to please not stress about sending thank you notes. We know you're thankful, and as a new parent we're pretty sure you have more pressing needs to fill. Your thanks can be better given by passing on the tradition! Responding to the organizers when new meals are needed is a great way to pay it back, pay it forward and meet new neighbors. Don't have time to cook a meal from scratch? Want to give back, but staying out of the kitchen is kinder for everyone involved? I happen to know that a selection of ready made foods like, say, a rotisserie chicken and a salad from the grocery store gets a welcome reception too.

HNMoms Subgroups

Many of us belong to "subgroups," which are smaller communities of parents with kids of similar age. Joining a subgroup is a great way to bond more closely with other parents (usually mothers) whose questions and concerns on the childrearing path parallel your own. Subgroups also try to meet more frequently in person, extending the online interactions of the listserv into real friendships among parents and kids. Those meetings may take the form of family potlucks, informal Saturdays-at-the-park playdates, moms' nights out, and other fun get-togethers.

To join a subgroup, contact jenniferhanna9 at yahoo.com with your interest; we will help you join the appropriate group for your family.

Be a part of the process: HNMOMS BIC Board

The tongue-in cheek name by which the collected moderators and other process-minded members are known is The Babes in Charge, or BICs for short. We aim to hold a series of meetings over the course of three or four months at least once a year to discuss group goals, ideas and ideals. We are currently in a meeting cycle and invite any new members to come and get involved.
