 Senior Play to be Presented

Last Time Thurs. and Fri. Nights

This year, the last year for the Handley High School seniors to present their annual plan, the cast will present a three-act play, entitled “Nuts in May,” written by Cornelia Otis Skinner.  The play reveals the opening night troubles of an actress on Broadway, with a few sprinkles of humor.  Her troubles range from her college son, played by Jimmy Harris, whose interest has broadened from dinosaurs to a more interesting hobby, girls.  Then there’s her dear friend, Isobel, played by Ann Briley, who has the second act in total confusion.

In the first act Cornelia Otis Skinner, played by Carolyn Parish, and her husband, Alden, played by Jerry Hammonds, try to straighten out their son’s love life when he comes up with two dates to attend his mother’s opening night of the play.  One is Janice O’Neil, played by Jane Garrison, and the other is Victoria Shaw, played by Jackie Mathis.

The second set brings out all the characters in the play and in this act the humor enters the picture.  To add to this mass of confusion Eve Carrington, played by Carol Ann Huskey, decides to change the script.  All these and more add up to troubles, troubles, troubles for our leading lady.

Other characters in the play are Ethel, played by Margaret Bargsley; Mary Ann, played by Kaye Buckellew; Shirley, played by Marvann Branch; Watson O’Neill, played by Jim Blakeman; Mrs. Shaw, Judy Gober; Maggie Dell, Rae Beebe; Marty, Kenneth Clowdus; Sam, Hampton Latta; and Phelps, Kenneth Le Poris.

Others having a part in producing the play are Robbie Heck, stage mgr.; Sue Schmidt, student director; Myrna Curtis, promptor; Ginger Wood, Gordon Daily and Linda Robinson, properties; Richard Clark, curtain; Milton Strange, sound effects; Joyce Collet, Make-up; Carolyn King Grammer, tickets; Wanda Brown, advertisement; Gary Philibert, lights; and Mike Braker, voice.

Tickets are on sale now and may be purchased from Linda Wheeler and Linda Robinson, or they are available at the school and may be obtained at the door of each night’s performance.

For those of you who get the paper on Thursday, the first presentation will be Thursday night, April 30th.  It will also be staged the following night, Friday, April 1 at 8:00 p. m. both nights at Handley High School auditorium.
