After pre-testing: walk the patient to the exam room, and ask them to sit in the exam chair. Offer for them to hang up their coats on the coat hanger, or place any additional items on the extra chair in the room.
Transition the patient to the doctor. This should lend to the transition that will occur from the doctor to the associate after the exam. Remember, we are trying to set up all transitions to be about the patient and not a product. Communicate all relevant information to the doctor, including:
1. Medical history that seem important, such as the patient has diabetes, a history of an eye injury, etc.
2. Functional complaints, such as patient has trouble driving at night, headaches with computer work, etc.
3. Any other interesting facts about that patient.
