Some patients will have only Medicare, while others might have supplemental insurance or advantage plan insurance with Medicare.
Advantage plans. A Medicare Advantage plan is the patient's Primary Medicare Plan. Claims are no longer submitted to Medicare once they have this plan. These plans must be verified for routine eye care benefits.
Medicare Advantage Plans we accept:
Humana Gold Plus or Humana Gold Choice. (routine through Eyemed)
Anthem Senior Advantage
Anthem Medicare Advantage
UHC Medicare Solutions (Note - this plan does not cover routine vision - do not verify for routine exams unless the patient thinks they have routine benefit and requests we verify.)
Tufts Advantage Plan
Medicare Advantage Plans we do not accept:
Martin's Point Generations Advantage. (routine may be through Eyemed, we are out of network for this plan, it can only be used for routine if patient has eyemed, cannot be used for medical)
Fallon Senior Plan (routine may be through Eyemed, we are out of network for this plan, it can only be used for routine if patient has eyemed, cannot be used for medical)
Supplement plans
A Medicare supplement plan is the patient's secondary plan and is billed after Medicare. We do not need to verify these insurances. We take all secondary insurances. Look for the word "supplement," as it is often listed on the card.
Here are some common Medicare supplement plans:
HPHC Medicare Supplement
Anthem Medigap (Back of Insurance Card states Medicare is primary and to file claims with Medicare)
Anthem Medicomp
Anthem Medex
AARP Medicare Supplement (This is different from an AARP membership card. Please verify that the card is actually insurance.)
GIC/Unicare Medicare Extension
Medicare Prescription Drug Plans that are Mistaken for Supplemental Plans:
