SAMPLE VERBAGE:
"The fee for your eye exam today is $49 dollars, that is your $10 copay and $39 for your retinal imaging".
If the patient asks if they need to have the retinal imaging - "The doctor strongly recommends it, and it gives a more comprehensive eye exam"
If the patient asks what the retinal imaging is or why should they get it - “Ocular health is an important part of your eye exam. Retinal imaging is a preventative test to maintain your very best eye health. It gives the doctor a much better view of the inside of your eye, allowing for early detection of many eye diseases, such as glaucoma and macular degenration, as well as diseases that affect the eye, such as diabetes. These digital images are stored for future reference."
REMEMBER:
Photos are recommended annually for patients of all ages.
This test does not replace dilated fundus exam.
Most eye diseases do not have any prior symptoms. Patients believe their eyes are healthy because they see well. It is usually too late to help a patient who waits until they notice their vision declining. Early detection and annual eye exams are the key to preventing eye disease.
