Contact Lens Age Policy
12 years old and over may be booked for a contact lens exam.
8 to <12 years old, may be booked for a contact lens exam, but the doctor will decide if contact lenses are appropriate for patient during the routine exam. This must be communicated to parent or guardian during scheduling.
Note: It is unusual for us to start patients in contacts under the age of 12, and highly unusual under the age of 10. Considerations to begin contacts at these ages are:
- patients with higher prescriptions.
- patients who are active, especially in sports.
- patients who exhibit a high level of maturity.
- patients who demonstrate responsible use and care of their current glasses (not wanting to wear glasses is not a reason to start kids in contacts, in fact it may be a reason not to consider contacts).
