Wash hands before each exam in the contact lens room sink, or the hand sanitizing station. Be sure patient is aware you are going to wash your hands or that you just washed your hands.
Hands should be washed in hot water, with soap, using a vigorous motion.
Clean all equipment with alcohol wipes, before any testing, and while patient is present, so patient can see the equipment being cleaned.
Dispose of any diagnostic drops if the bottle tip touches the patient's eye or eyelids.
Ask patient to wash their hands before removing / inserting contact lenses.
Do not reuse any disposable contact lens cases, dispose of case after patient has used it.
Give each contact lens patient a new bottle of solution and a new contact lens case, when removing their contact lenses.
