¡Hola! ¿Qué hicieron durante el día de nieve? Today I'm at a workshop called "Integrated Performance Assessments" and you're going to use your phones to watch "The Pineapple Diaries" webseries filmed right here in JP by Paloma Valenzuela (who will come visit our class!) If you're like me and don't have such a phone, please share. Here's Season One. No need to watch the trailer, but watch episodes #1-5 and respond to the following prompts on a separate sheet of paper to hand-in at the end of class. Press "CC" for subtitles in Spanish. [Content is more important than exact wording, so jot down ideas, questions, impressions, connections, etc. and don't worry so much about complete sentences.]
[Times for each episode don't include intro/credits, which you can skip]
Ep 1 "Pilot" 20mn - What do people in your family remind/nag you about? Do you, anyone in your family, or anyone you know send envios/moneygrams? What places in JP do you recognize? Are there similar places in your neighborhood?
Ep 2 "Everything I Am" 4.5mn - Are expectations of young Latinas different from other genders/ages/backgrounds? Why might young and/or black Latin@s experience more pressure than other genders/ages/races/cultures?
Ep 3 "Brunch" 14mn - What's your favorite brunch food? In what ways do you/don't you identify with biracial identity? Why does her mother
Ep 4 "Si Dios Quiere [If G-d wants]": Does anyone in your family or anyone you know say this or something related? What purpose does it serve?
Ep 5 "Smile" 8mn - Do you agree/disagree/relate to this depiction of expectations of females and catcalling? Why or why not?
*BONUS: Contact Paloma Valenzuela and let her know what you think!
* No HW due Tues/Wed/Thurs, but the binder check/binder quiz that was supposed to happen during the snow day will be on Wed + Thurs, instead.
