North Fork of the Ogden

1 hr $

There are lots of nice established camp sites and North Fork Campground (and some not so nice). This place is way under-used. On a Friday in August the sites near the first entrance were only 20% filled. In general the sites near the first entrance aren't as good, but there are more of them. Some are better than they look at first site. We stayed in site 36 and there was plenty of room for parking and tents.

To get there, go up Weber Canyon on I84 and take the Mountain Green exit and take highway 167 (Trapper's Loop) to the Huntsville area and head around the reservoir either way. Go north on highway 162 through Eden and Liberty until you cross a bridge and see the North Fork road going off to the left. Follow that road until you see the signs. There are three entrances to the camping areas with a camp host near the entrance of each one. The three areas are connected so don't do all the way back out to check out the other entrances. See the map http://www.co.weber.ut.us/parks/images/North_Fork_Map.pdf

They charge $18 a campsite for up to 8 people and 2 vehicles and 2 tents. They charge extra if there are more vehicles, people or tents, so you may want to consolidate into larger vehicles and tents. Be prepared with how much you owe, because they do make mistakes adding the numbers. They come around to collect if you don't pay them first. See http://www.co.weber.ut.us/parks/nfpark.php

There is a trail head to Ben Lomand peak and also a small waterfall you can hike to up Cold Water Canyon in the first entrance area.
