Horseshoe Springs Knoll

1¼ hr

This is a free dispersed camping area on a knoll, just above Horseshoe Springs in Skull Valley. It's a fun place for scouts to run around and play games. It can be tricky maneuvering the area in rain or snow with the clay roads.

You can't camp down by the spring, but you could actually wade in it in warm weather. The water is cool but not cold due to some thermal activity. It's mossy but clear where the moss isn't, not very deep, but kind of a pretty blue. There are some bass and carp in it if you want to fish. There is a boardwalk going along the side of the spring. See http://bonnevillemariner.wordpress.com/2007/11/15/if-you-cant-beat-the-fish-you-can-join-them-at-horseshoe-springs/

Head west of SLC on I80 to the Rowley/Dugway exit #77 and head south on Skull Valley Road (196) for about 10 miles until you see the knoll on your left. Just before the knoll there is a turnoff on the left. (If you get to the Horseshoe Springs turnoff on the right you have gone too far.) Head east on the dirt road and then turn right on one of the roads heading up the hill.
