Maples/Snow Basin

35 min + 20 minute hike T

This is an abandoned Forest Service campground that the road has been closed to. But, it's an easy 1 mile hike to get to any time of year since the trail is packed down in the winter by snow cats and cross country skiers. It used to have picnic tables, but I'm not sure if they're still there since I've only been there in the winter. There is plenty of open space to camp in.

To get there head to Snow Basin and park at the bottom of packing lot #2. Head to the northwest corner of the packing lot and you will see a trail heading down. Follow the trail about a mile and past where it starts going up hill and you will see some fairly flat areas on the left to camp. If in winter, take some shovels to level things out. I've seen scouts heading down with their Klondike sleds and other sleds to pull there gear in.

I've also seen where some campers made some partial igloos in another pretty flat area near by. To get there, after going down the trail about 3/4 of a mile, take the first trail going down to the right and follow it to the next trail going back up to the right and they were up in the trees on your right.
