This campground has been permanently closed by the Forest Service.

This Forest Service campground near Pineview Reservoir,Huntsville is now open to camp in for no fee in the winter. It is a great place for winter camping, but you have to walk a little ways since they keep the main gate closed. It's about 50 yards to the first site. If that site is taken you can cut through the first site and on the right there are other sites not much further or go straight to further and possibly wetter sites on he north. You do get some highway noise at the south end. Otherwise the northern sites are about 100 yards. There are plenty of sites with picnic tables and fire pits and there were two other troops there when we went. I would recommend taking sleds or something to pull equipment in on, a flat shovel to clear the snow away from the tables and fire pit and wear boots or snow shows depending on the weather. A tarp works good for pulling firewood in.

When going to Pineview from Trapper's loop turn right on highway 39 and go a half a mile and you will see the sign on your left. Don't turn at the first sign, but at the second larger sign pictured here:

here is a parkig area plowed out just before a bridge and a gate.

Go around the right side of the gate and find a campground.

This is also a nice place to camp other times of the year. However, you generally have to get there early to get a site, especially in the summer. All the sites are first come, first serve.

I was able to get a spot after 6:30 on Friday May 30 and there were still a couple left. But, the host was surprised at that. She said they usually fill up around 3 or 4:00.

The cost was $18. But they charge $9 for extra vehicles. I'm not sure if that means more than one or two. If you go to the south part you do get some highway noise, but it's not bad.

There isn't direct access to Pineview Reservoir due to the swamp, but you can take a nice walk north for a nice view of the reservoir.
