You're going through crazy stuff again. You have a crazy boyfriend. What's this season like?
Rutina Wesley: "I'm just tied up. I mean you know it's like... You know, it sucks, but it's what I love to do. It's very challenging and I get to just emote. And I think going to the Juilliard school has trained me to do that. You know what I mean? But I hope that someone comes to her rescue or I hope she can finally escape. But he's a vampire and he's like super fast, so I don't know if I'll ever be able to escape."
Are these scripts just crazy? Every time you get one do you go, "No!"?
Rutina Wesley: "Yeah. I've been like, 'Tied up. And I'm tied up. Tied up to a toilet?!' Yeah, it's been not nerve-wracking but challenging. This is, I think, every actors dream to be on a show like this that has so many peaks and valleys. I mean Alan Ball is a genius and I love working with him, and I love my entire cast. We all really enjoy going to work every day."
And how did Alan Ball and Co. break the news to her that she’d be tied up for half the season?
“They actually came to me and they were like, ‘We love you, just don’t think we don’t but you’re going to be tied up… you’re going to be tied to a bed… you’re going to be duct taped to a toilet,’” she explained. “I was like, ‘OK fine! As long as you love me, everything’s all good.’ ”
