For example in the scene where [John Cusack] comes to fetch me, and [Randy Quaid] is actually in my club, and I'm tied to the chair. [John] comes over and he stands there—I always found that really hysterical. But in the rehearsals it just started becoming just straightforward dramatic. And I just thought it was more fun when it was fun, so that's when I went like, “Are you for real?” It actually wound up [in the final cut] rather than the more dramatic readings of it.
