The actress explained her initial apprehension, "You know, I did have some major concerns about the role the first time I read the script, but mainly that was over the fact that 90 percent of the movie involves me being tied up. In fact, every time you see me shackled up in The Woman, I'm really locked up, which can be a bit terrifying if you aren't mentally prepared for it. But the first time I chatted with Lucky about everything, we just connected so well that I soon got over those concerns, and I always had two guys next to me ready with the keys so if I needed to get out of the cuffs quickly, I could."
In many ways it was very liberating because I shed all my modern feminine expectations and found ways my body could live in a far more natural and powerful state. The mind follows and rather than feeling limited by the lack of language or the physical restraints of the role (I'm chained up most of the time) I felt utterly alive and fiercly present and active throughout. As far as the rape scene is concerned I was personally in no discomfort. Lucky and I had a very clear idea of what we wanted to say with that scene (it's one of my favorites for it's impactfull message) so I was relaxed. Sean Bridgers (who played my captor) was perhaps more uncomfortable than I was and I just felt like I wanted to take care of him. We laughed a lot after to break that spell. When I feel we're doing good work, as a team, I'm very happy and The Woman was that kind of shoot.
