In 1911 William Francis Carr, then a 14-year-old schoolboy, was living with his family at 11 Matrimony Place, Wandsworth Road. His father, Frederick Carr, 56, was a sweeper, originally from Ipswich, Suffolk. His mother, Elizabeth Frances Carr, 51, was from Swansea, South Wales. Two of William's seven siblings were counted at this address: Robert Arthur Carr, 12, and Arthur John Carr, 9, both born in Clapham, as well as a "nurse child", Daphane Munns, aged 1, born in Lambeth.
