In 1891 the Causbys were living in Newington, near Elephant and Castle, south-east London. Three-year-old Laurence (as he was given on the census) lived with his parents Frank Causby, a printer's assistant manager, and Charlotte A. Causby, both born in Lambeth, and two sisters: Gertrude F Causby, 4, and Winifred C. Causby, 1, both born in Walworth. Henry Laws, a single 21-year-old clerk, also from Walworth, boarded with the family.

In 1901 13-year-old Lawrence was living at 24 Fitzwilliam Road (off Rectory Grove), Clapham, with his parents Frank (now described as a printer's manager) and Charlotte, as well as sisters Gertrude and Winifred.
Information from the 1911 census
In 1911 Laurence Causby, 23, was working as an order clerk and living at 164 Elms Road, Clapham, with his parents, Frank 49, and Charlotte, 46. Gertrude was working as a clerk and Winifred as a teacher in an elementary school. The family occupied seven rooms.
