Information from the 1911 census

In 1911 George J S Capel, then aged 26, a straw hat salesman, was living with his widowed mother Mary, 63, at 161 Wirtemberg Street (later renamed Stonhouse Street), Clapham. Mary was from Bury, Sussex. George, who was the only survivor of Mary's four children, was born in Clapham. Also in the household were Frederica Clemence, Mary's niece, 26, a draper assistant born in Brighton, and Robert Fisher, 49, a single boarder working as a clerk, who was from St Pancras, north London.

In 1901 George was working as a counting house clerk. His father, George, was listed as a jobbing gardener. He was from Walthamstow, east London. The family (Mary, George Sr and George Jr) lived at 157 Wirtemburg Street, Clapham.
