In 1911 Richard Parnell was a 17-year-old clerk, living with his parents and brother at 23 Abbeville Road, where the family had six rooms. His father, Water Frank Parnell, 46, was a commercial traveller, born in Portsmouth, Hampshire; his mother, Elizabeth Toshack Parnell, 45, was from Bristol. His 14-year-old brother, David Lumsden Parnell, was born in London. Richard Parnell was born in Belfast.
