Information from the 1911 census
In 1911 Herbert George Clarke was boarding at 17 Cavendish Road, Clapham with three other men, one of whom was Otto August Fleurr, a German commercial clerk. The census return states (apparently in Clarke's own handwriting) that he was born in London and that he worked as a chartered accountant.
Marriage records
On 24 November 1912 Herbert Clarke, 28, married Bessie Caroline Hobbs, 32, at Holy Trinity, Clapham. He was then living at 58 Alderbrook Road; Bessie gave her address as 15 The Pavement. Clarke's father was described as a minister. Bessie's as a retired fruiterer.
