Sidbury Cider Club, Devon, United Kingdom

Near Lyme Bay, just outside of Sidmouth, at the end of one of the most narrow lanes in all of England I came across the coolest place in Ciderdom. The Sidbury Cider Club started out a few years back when a group of friends were visiting at one of their new farms. In the cider barn of the 350 odd year old farm complex is a massive single screw oak beam cider press. Just perfect for a straw cheese to be built on! The cider club itself formed as a way to save the cider press from disrepair, or worse yet, sale! The club exists as a way for its members to get together and learn how to make cider. They pick apples together and press them into a right fine cider at that. And as you can see by the award they won at the Honiton Agriculture Show, I'm not the only one who thinks so. The club also helps offset costs by a community outreach plan, where groups such as area businessmen come to the barn to try their hand at cider making as part of a team-work building program. Congratulations to the Club, and cheers for teaching others what you are yourselves learning!
