Julian Temperley is one of the most well written about cider makers out there. I dropped in unannounced on his Burrow Hill cidery at a rather busy time. I was given an excellent tour by the staff there, and was treated to countless samples while waiting to speak with the good Mr. Temperley. When I finally did get to speak with him, he said "well come on then if you're coming". And with that we were driving like mad across his orchard, down to where the sheep were up to no good. Though the interview was lacking, and I gathered zero usable data points, it was perhaps the best experience I had in the West Country. Julian drives like a mad man, swears like a sailor and makes a very tasty scrumpy to boot. I only wish I could have stopped back in for a second visit, to actually get my work done.
