The King’s School, Canterbury was pleased to host what has become the opening splash of the BSDRA season. This year an increased entry of 14 teams experienced warm sunshine, a good F2/F3 SE breeze, and an afternoon which aimed to get the balance of competitiveness and fun.

Teams were divided into two leagues and each sailed complete round robins – a total of 42 races. The schools represented were Aldenham, Ardingly, Eton, King’s (2 teams), MCS Oxford, RGS Guildford, Rugby, Tonbridge (2 teams) and Wellington. Other teams represented the Kent Schools SA(KSSA) and the Oxford District Schools SA, which included three Radley sailors.

The races in two fleets (420s) proceeded without break, thanks to the excellent work of BSDRA colleagues on start, finish and umpire boats. MCS, Wellington, KSSA1 and RGS Guildford achieved most wins in the leagues, followed by King’s 1 and ODSSA. The event concluded with Knockout Finals for the top six teams. This produced a final three way sail off between MCS, King’s and KSSA.

Congratulations to MCS, winners of the EK BSDRA April 2010 Championship in fine style, and to all the teams for their friendliness and keen racing.
