The Mouse Trap
Do you hear that poor little mouse's prayer.
Its tiny heart full of sighs?
Why are your ears so tightly closed
To a mouse's earnest cries?
In your house all sad it sits
While in a shed its wife she waits
Both trembling at the approaching night
That promises them their fates.
If in your heart some pity is
And you hate a tyrant's chain,
Why let your human instinct take
A mouse's life in vain.
The meagre remnants of your meals
Its tiny needs supply;
Surely these small necessities
You would not them deny.
Remember, they also have a crafted mind
Which all creation gives.
So look at that mouse with a well taught eye
And feel for all that lives.
