Martha's Burden
The sons of Mary smile and are blest
For they have the angels on their side.
In them G-d's grace is of old confessed
And for them his mercies are multiplied.
But the sons of Martha must sit and learn
The word and how the promise runs,
For Martha lost her temper once
And the law condemned her sons.
Because she was rude to the Lord her guest
To her sons much now is forbidden.
Look on and see and be amazed
How much to them is hidden.
It is said to the mountains, 'Be removed'
And to the floods, 'Be dry'.
It seems it is only given to Mary's sons.
To know the reason why.
This is why the blood of Martha's sons
Is oft spilled upon the ground
And are rarely given any quarter
'Till other means are found.
Martha's sons must honour Mary's sons
Whose virtues shine so bright
For each and all of Mary's sons
Are bathed in the eternal light.
Therefore only by struggle
Can Martha's sons faith be regained
In the ancient race for redemption
And all because Martha complained.
