The Jewish Lament
We've chewed on the bread of creation
While others have spat it out.
And it's been bitter and sour
With hardly an hour
That's not been taken away.
We've listened to those that reviled us,
Who say we are of the Devil's strain,
The scum of the Earth and by damnation
They swore no Jew would remain.
And they schemed to remove a whole nation,
Their religion, their books and their ways
And they carried it out as they always have
Using the law to disguise their malaise.
But it's true you know what wise men say
How G-d often works in a mysterious way.
For out of that night, that Devil's delight
Came the dawn of a wonderful day.
The evil intent on the Jew they had vent
Caused the world to plead for the Jew.
Fulfil the promise and give them the land,
Let them go and forever remain
In the land they say G-d gave them,
And the Jew is now home once again.
