No Choice
Like those who have gone before us
Our time passes swiftly by
And we follow their steps not much wiser
'Til the time comes for our souls to fly.
The violence of life we've experienced
Is but sire and dam to our art
And the fear that is always present
Is the fuel that keeps us apart.
We are the prisoners of evolution
Whose account we all have to pay.
Then age will arrive and whisper
You are mortal, you can't overstay.
So any faith that we might have
Is ours by right to hold
For the Soul by faith is ripened
And it's all we have that's gold.
We may feed on thoughts of joy and love
Those sacred fruits eternal,
But don't get too fond ,
of this Earthly pond,
It's ruled by powers infernal.
