The Sojourner
Once Nature stood in awe of me so perfect was my mold,
And all the stars in Heaven's vaults did gift me with their gold.
And the grace of G-d from my eyes did shine as I tasted the primal dew,
And the deeds of the Earth passed down to me when I was young and the Earth was new.
And Nature stood and smiled at me as the deeds of flesh I signed,
And sturdy manhood was my lot but the eye of my Soul was blind.
A banished flame from a higher realm it suffered a Mortals pain,
And slowly withdrew its influence returning from whence it came.
Now Nature stands and laughs at me and mocks my limbs of age,
And the lines you see on my wrinkled face are cracks in a breaking cage.
I'm paused on the threshold of Heaven, I've the odour of G-d in my nose,
So pardon me if I rest my eyes, I have a few Sins to disclose.
