Perplexed C of E
Well it seems I must now reconsider
My belief as taught by the church.
For it appears there's more than one Bishop
That's leaving his flock in the lurch.
They preach as unbelievers,
Giving no credence to Virgin Birth,
And as for the resurrection,
It seems to reduce them to mirth.
Then of course there's Life Everlasting,
Holy Communion with Bread and Red Wine,
Not forgetting the Ten Commandments,
They say are no longer Divine.
So for whom and why are they changing,
Their views on my humble estate?
Do they believe I'm an Ape not an Angel,
And must I now to the former relate?
There's more, they're even suggesting,
That the Dead will remain in the Ground,
And as for the Celestial City,
Well, they're sorry but it's never been found.
Now all this renouncing is serious,
And I reckon I'll have to speak out,
If it's only for those Baptismal Promises,
They say I can now do without.
To deny a man's belief in something better,
Is to eventually sign his Death-Knell,
And to infer he's down here forever,
Is to re-name Planet Earth, Planet Hell.
