How To Remove the Light Contol Panel
Removal of the light control panel at the left of the steering wheel allows you to access certain electrical wires and/or add switches.
Like most panels on the xB, the driver's light control panel is held on by a number of clips.
Removing this panel is easier if your first remove the driver's knee panel.
First, push upwards on the dash pad (red arrow) to expose the panel's upper tab.
(The red circle highlights switches I added. Your xB won't have these switches.)
The upper tab of the light control panel is exposed (red arrow).
The first time I removed this panel, I trimmed the tab down some in order to make subsequent removal of the light control panel easier.
It may be helpful to insert a wedge into the gap, to keep the dash pad up and open.
A total of five clips hold this panel down. Some can be freed by pushing from below. The rest require careful prying and coaxing. You will also have to ease the upper tab past the dash pad.
Here the panel is free from the dash and dangling by the wires.
Switches from left to right: instrument panel light level, side view mirrors, and my LED controls.
You can see in this picture how I cut into the dash to provide additional clearance for my LED controls.
Here's one reason I removed this panel: I tapped into this wire (red arrow) on the instrument panel light level control to sense when my parking lights are on.
Another reason was to add new switches to this panel.
To reinstall this panel, just push it back in, then push the dash pad down.
