(These mods took place in early January 2012.)
There are times that my box functions as a grocery-getter. Oftentimes there are small items that are carried in bags. I got tired of having my stuff strewn about the inside of my car during my trip home, so I got this set of four coat hooks from a 1970s Ford on eBay. The screw and peg mounting method prevents the hook from rotating. The two piece design means the screw attachment is hidden from view.
I mounted one hook on the center console on the passenger side. The hook mounting height allows most bags to rest on the floor yet keeps the bag upright and the contents secure.
I put two more hooks in the cargo area, one on each side.
Soon after posting my Tanabe NF210 spring install on the forum, I was asked "What's next? A rear sway bar?" I posted that I wanted one, after I got an overhead console. To my surprise, two people responded that they did not like their overhead console. I PM'd each of them and asked why not. One said if he customized his headliner, he'd have to do his overhead console too. The other said since he is 6' 5" tall he kept banging his head on the overhead console. He also said he would gladly trade me my uncut headliner for his cut headliner and overhead console. So we worked out a trade.
We did the swap at his house, in his driveway, with one of his Toyota Tech buddies. Here is the Tech removing my headliner, which means:
remove 2 sunvisors and their hooks
remove 4 grab handles
remove A pillar panels
remove front seatbelt upper anchors and B pillar panels
remove cargo bins, side cargo panels, and C pillar panels
remove maplight and domelight
A lot of work!
These are pictures of my friend's car with the overhead console and headliner removed. The white tube above the windows is the curtain airbag (one on each side ).
Here is my friend's cut headliner being installed into my car. The domelight and two grab handles have been reinstalled. The entire process took about 2 hours since my friend had removed his overhead console and headliner prior to my arrival.
All done. I think the overhead console is a great addition and I really appreciate all the work that was done to get it installed.
