David Arnold is the man behind the Big Breakfast theme tune, not to be confused with the David Arnold who has worked on James Bond, Godzilla and Little Britain. Our David Arnold has been composing music for television and radio for over 30 years.
As a professional conductor has worked with the Moscow Symphony Orchestra and the London Philharmonic orchestra to produce jingles for stations such as Essex Radio, Hereward in Peterborough and Radio 210 in Reading to name a few. Since 1989 he has been the UK representative for American jingle companies such as TM Century and Thompson Creative, both based in Dallas. Some of his recent work for radio includes jingle packages for Classic FM and Jazz FM.
Television Work
Some of David Arnold's television work includes Live & Kicking, CBBC, a rearrangement of the Blue Peter theme which he also did with the London Philharmonic Orchestra and a re-arrangement of the Record Breakers theme with boy band 911 and saxophonist Ben Castle who is son of the late Roy Castle.
He has been seen on Live And Kicking twice, once in a montage shown on the last programme of series 5 containing the production team and secondly on "Music Live And Kicking" as part of the BBC's Music Live festival in the year 2000, where he was seen conducting a little band which performed his theme to the aforementioned programme.
In an out-take featured on "Auntie's Bloomers" the other David Arnold (who worked with Bjork and composed the themes to Independence Day, Stargate etc) was being interviewed on a programme (which was probably made for BBC Choice) and they showed an extract from the opening titles to Live And Kicking only to find out that they had got the wrong David Arnold! - A crime that Bow Locks has never been guilty of, honest!
