Evan looked into Amazon Smile (as discussed at last meeting) and couldn't see any reason why we shouldn't sign up for this. The Club voted to do this, so he will set this up for the Club.
Other Business:
Notes from March meeting approved as posted.
The presentation at Tulsa Air and Space Museum Planetarium on March 8 went very well! Craig thanked everyone for attending. About 62 people came!
Craig asked if Club members were interested in any future presentations at TASM and there was interest! It was suggested that perhaps we might plan for one or two more events this year.
Volunteers are needed for future meeting programs at Club meetings. Please contact Bob Young to volunteer.
Astronomical League News - Kristi Herrman
Kristi submitted the club's quarterly roster for April to the Astronomical League. Our roster currently reflects 51 memberships, which represents 80 members, consisting of 58 adults and 22 youth.
BYA Report - Rick Bryant
At the April 15th BYA meeting, they will be making cell phone adapters for taking cell phone photos through the eyepiece of a telescope or binoculars.
BYA will be conducting a fundraiser next month. They will be selling chocolate-covered strawberries that look like roses for Mother's Day.
Requests for Programs:
Owasso First United Methodist VBS program request for evening of June 8 - Ellen Wehn. Rick Bryant will call her about this event.
Bartlesville Public Library program request for Summer Reading Program in June & July, “A Universe of Stories” - Laura Pryce. Abby and Lashawn will call Laura to work on this. Fran Stallings (BAS member) is also planning a story-telling event in her own right. We might also do a telescope demo for this.
There was some discussion about how we should handle future requests for presentations. One suggestion was to announce these as they come in, rather than waiting until the next meeting. Perhaps email the Board for an initial go-ahead and then email the members to ask for volunteers. It was also brought up that if we use any materials we've received from the Astronomical League (which we receive based on holding outreach events), we should limit them to events in the Bartlesville area, as these event locations are most likely to generate new membership for the Club. Woolaroc events could possibly generate new members, but a lot of people who visit Woolaroc are from outside our area.
Sunfest: May 31 to June 2 at Sooner Park - Denise submitted the application. Will need at least two people to volunteer for each two-hour shift. Will have signup sheet for volunteers at the May meeting.
Club Brochure and Handout: Denise and Craig are working on updating these, along with Rick Bryant, who is creating a new Club logo.
Club Banner: Rick Bryant is working on this, including a new Club logo.
Astronomy Day - May 11: There was discussion about whether or not we should plan something to mark this event, but nothing was decided. Rick Buck, the Club's star party coordinator, should be involved.
Club Star Party - Planned for Saturday, April 6: Details sent by email. There will be pizza at 6:30 pm and a hat will be passed to pay for it. Everyone please bring their own water or soft drinks.
Next Meeting - Monday, May 6: "The Oklahoma Link to the Europa Submarine" by Ian Mitchell
Main Presentation: History of Optical Astronomy by Daryl Doughty. Please see the attached presentation and notes from Daryl.
