Although new diagnostic tools are being developed and introduced (e.g. Cytosponge, EsophaCap, EsoCheck, Spit Test, Breath Test), diagnosis of Barrett's presently has to be confirmed by examination by a histopathologist of tissue samples (biopsies) taken during endoscopic examination of the oesophagus.
