Patient Experiences

I'VE HAD THIS! - HERE'S WHAT TO EXPECT.

These pages feature patients' own stories of their first time experiences of some of the procedures and treatments Barrett's patients may receive, so others about to undergo any of them themselves will be better prepared.

If you can add your own experiences of any of the procedures listed below, or others we haven't yet listed, or have any tips you can pass on, please send them to us.  (Support@Barretts.org.uk)

Receiving a diagnosis

A Barrett's diagnosis actually requires confirmation from histology but, as shown below in this article from Chris Robinson, accepted for PCSG "Digest" May 2022 (Pain) edition, how the information is given to the patient can vary considerably.

Note. Barrett's is permanent, it has no symptoms of its own and is unlikely to mutate, especially with management with PPI medication and regular surveillance scopes.
