Awaiting some patients' accounts. In the meantime, these are some comments gleaned from social media comments from those who have had TIF.
"It took me months to take the decision to have this surgery. I ruled out completely the Linx Ring, I came to the conclusion that you are going to damage your esophagus, then I was left with two options, Nissen Fundoplication and TIF. Then Nissen Fundoplication is already a proved surgery and the TIF is kind of a new technique when compared to the Nissen. I decided on TIF because I can still have the option for a Nissen. I had to do something with my GERD.
I did all the tests: 24hr pH manometry, Endoscopy and Barium swallowing test that confirmed my GERD."
"I’m one month out from HH repair and TIF. I am strictly adhering to the post TIF diet & 60 mg dexilant. I will be reducing the dose to 30 mg for the coming two months.
In the first few days, I had mainly Gas issues. However, I have had reflux symptoms on and off throughout these 4 weeks. Despite having some improvement in swallowing and still being able to burp, I still have symptoms as sour taste and burning of my esophagus & can’t lie down flat. However, I couldn’t tell/differentiate if the burning is from the inflamed esophagus (which I assume takes more time to recover) or actual reflux.
I am a bit confused to have a conclusive opinion whether my TIF is working or is it too soon to conclude at this stage as one month is still considered “the healing phase” & I should alllow more months for the scar tissue to form?"
"8 week post op appt went great! I have a clean bill of health and can start slowly back on normal foods!! One new food a week"
"I am over 2 months out and the gas is horrible. I also have a horrible acid like taste in my mouth and it is irritating my throat. I am going back for an endoscopy next month."
"After 9 months and believing for certain the surgery had failed, I am finally on a successful wean off my dosage for 40mg pantoprazole.
I honestly am starting to believe I will get completely off or very close to that and I really had lost all hope of that.
I had tried to cut to 20mg, 4 months after surgery and my throat got completely burnt from acid just like it would before surgery. I also still had trouble with some foods for many many months and don’t any more so I am guessing and hoping some healing just really took a long long time."
"The surgery only half worked for me. It stopped the night reflux, but not the heartburn and I was never able to get off PPI’s. I would have left it at that, but now I’m having night reflux again."
