Hello, my name is Doro and I’m from Germany.
I am 46 years old I have been suffering from heartburn since 2009 and have had regular gastroscopy because of it.
In 2014, a salmon-colored offshoot of C0M1 was found, always without metaplasia in the biopsies.
In 2024, Barrett's esophagus C0M1 without dysplasia was diagnosed for the first time in the biopsy.
I have always taken PPIs when needed, and since the diagnosis of Barrett, I have been taking esomeprazole every day. Since then, I have been receiving treatment at a reflux center. I am generally a bit anxious about illnesses, so I was initially at my wits' end after the diagnosis.
Of course, I googled it online, which wasn't great, as a lot of the information wasn't always helpful. Since I joined the Facebook group Barrett Esophagus Awareness, I have received a lot of good information.
I try not to attach too much importance to Barrett and to get on with my life. But sometimes I worry too. I eat and drink whatever I want (even though some doctors say low-acid, no coffee, no chocolate... because I still want to live, after all). It doesn't cause heartburn, but sometimes I still get it.
I've cut down on alcohol, except on vacation, when I can have the occasional extra beer. I take my PPIs and go for check-ups; I think that's the most important thing I can do.
Greetings Doro
