Cancer Journey

No-one with Barrett's wants to get cancer, but unfortunately for a few, their Barrett's cells can mutate.

These stories show there is life after a cancer diagnosis.

The secret of surviving any cancer is finding it and treating it soon enough.

As the members of the Barrett's Esophagus Awareness Facebook group have proved, if diagnosed with Barrett's, following the regimen of daily PPI and regular surveillance, reduces the risk to practically zero. (11,000 + members with just 3 fatalities in 10 years.)

It's those who don't know they have it who find out too late, as illustrated by this story:
"My husband had heartburn daily and wouldn't see the doctor until he couldn't swallow.
3 weeks later, he was dead!"

Treatments like the EMR and Ablation and, in extreme cases, oesophagectomy, which you may find covered on these pages, can save lives.

In the meantime, thank you to Mary and Julie and Nick (from the Raising Awareness - Cancer of the Oesophagus Facebook group) thank you for your accounts of your on-going journeys.
