Barrett's Esophagus Info

This is a PDF download of a site provided by the Ryan Hill Research Foundation until 2008 when its funding was withdrawn by Astra Zeneca who had previously supported it.

Although some of the science may have been superseded and there have been new techniques and treatments  introduced since, the work provides a good grounding in understanding Barrett's.

Due to the nature of the source of the publication, links won't work and some of the text may not seem to flow logically.

It proved an invaluable source of information in the production of the Down With Acid encyclopaedia.

Experiments and Observations on the Gastric Juice

This 1833 book by Dr William Beaumont, called the "Father of Gastroenterology", is an interesting account from which all gastroenterologists can learn.

It started in 1822 when Dr Beaumont, an army surgeon, save the life of Alexis St.Martin, a fur trader, who had been accidentally shot with a musket ball which opened a hole into his stomach. Beaumont used this "window" to conduct many gruesome experiments from which we got our first understanding of how our digestive systems work.

You may need to scroll a few pages before it starts, or open in a new window.
