Writing Resources

For our class, you will compose at least one written assignment. The handouts labeled "Barnet" provided below were created from Sylvan Barnet's A Short Guide to Writing About Art, which is a very helpful text for any students new to Art History courses.

The "Common Editing Problems for Undergraduate Students" handout is particularly important, because I created it after a few semesters of reading students' papers in order to address problems I saw appearing repeatedly. Every student in my courses has had at least one of the problems listed in his/her paper, and most students have several. The problems are easily correctable.
