Arlington 50 Year Plan - my musings
1. Arlington is a residential community for Harvard University, downtown Boston, MIT, the biotechnology firms, and Tufts University. Peace and quiet, plus a low crime rate, are Arlington hallmarks. Arlington is not a business or industrial community.
2. Arlington needs air, water, food, raw materials, and energy to survive. Nuclear, wind, solar, and geothermal energy could sustain Arlington in perpetuity Raw materials must be imported. Air quality is regulated by state and federal agencys. Self sufficiency in food could be attained possibly via retasking some housing areas or advanced individual growing techniques.
3. The future is to be found in electronics, optics, science, research, development, biology, higher education, etc, and social harmony. It may be possible for Arlington to erect one semiconductor factory, and one biotechnology factory in order to be self sufficient over a long term.
4. A 50 Year Plan could be developed by Townspeople to orient public expenditures with a view towards long term survival.
