Arlington Mass rebuilt their Park Circle Fire Station in approximately
2007. The station was supposed to be sprinklered, but the sprinkler
system was deleted at the last moment. I took a look back through my
notes to see how much money was saved. The amount saved seems to be
somewhere between $50,000 and $300,000.
Here are a few informative items that I found.
June 2009 - Permanent Town Building Committee (PTBC) Report To Town
Meeting - Park Ave station - project closed out - Budget $2,520,000 -
cost $2,376,392 - $143,608 balance transferred to Highland and Central
Station accounts
- bld complete - no mention of savings

left over from Park Circle fire station construction - August 2011

- sprinklers deleted because they are not required, and it is a small
bld - would have required fire pump (???) - (there is a 70 foot tall
water tank right next to the fire station - the site is on top of a
400 foot hill)

project might be $300,000 under budget - the public comments are not
pretty

- Nov 2005 - the project already had problems
