Snow Emergency/Parking Ban Declared January 26 at 6 PM
The accumulation of snow, frigid temperatures, narrowing roads, and additional bad weather is challenging for all. Passage on most roadways in Arlington has become difficult with no on-street parking, problematic with the occasional parked car, and hazardous with parking on both sides of the street. On-street parking is making it stressful for day-to-day travel for all residents, but is a serious concern for public safety vehicles, which are generally larger than most vehicles. Increasingly, on-street parking is impeding their ability to respond to emergencies.
Due to all these challenges and the impending storm, the Town of Arlington has declared a snow emergency/parking ban effective Wednesday January 26 starting at 6 p.m. (except Mass. Ave. which will be exempt from the emergency parking ban). The ban will be lifted on Thursday, January 27 at 6 p.m.
During a Snow Emergency a parking ban is in place on all streets and municipal parking lots. It is crucial to keep cars off the streets during this time to allow the Town to clear the roads. Any vehicles parked on the streets during these hours will be subject to ticketing and towing.
At this time, trash collection is still planned as scheduled for Thursday January 27 and Town Hall offices and Robbins Library will be open. For additional updates, please check arlingtonma.gov or robbinslibrary.org.

One-side of Street Parking Restrictions for East Arlington
Starting Friday, January 28th parking in East Arlington from Pleasant and Medford streets east to Route 16/Cambridge line will be restricted to one side of the street.
- For one-way streets, parking is allowed on the right-hand side, unless street is already posted for one-side only parking. On those streets, continue to park on one-side as posted.
- For all other roads, parking is allowed on the odd-numbered side of the street, unless otherwise notified by the Arlington Police Department.
- Main roads exempt from the one-side parking restriction are Mass. Ave, Broadway, Medford Street (between Mass Ave and Warren), Pleasant Street, River Street, Bates Road and Orvis Road. All other posted parking rules apply
- These East Arlington parking restrictions will be in place until further notice. Any vehicles not adhering to these restrictions are subject to ticketing and towing.
At this time, one-side parking is only being enforced in East Arlington. However, the Town is strongly encouraging all residents town-wide to refrain from on-street parking. If you must park in the street, be cognizant of where your car is parked with respect to other cars and passage on the road. Seconds count in an emergency and your cooperation in parking your car responsibly helps keep you and your neighbors safe.
After a storm it is equally important for all residents and businesses to keep public walkways clear. Other ways to help include shoveling out fire hydrants by your property or that of a neighbor and clearing any catch basins near your property.
