What are the fundamental steps we are to follow to grow in faith as a believer in Jesus Christ?
Step 1 Admit that I have selfishly rejected God
As Israel lived under the bondage of Pharaoh in Egypt they had to be willing to turn to God, trust and follow his commands and direction in their journey.
For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God. Romans 3:23 ...
“There is none righteous, no, not one; Romans 3:10
Therefore, just as through one man sin entered the world, and death through sin, and thus death spread to all men, because all sinned– Romans 5:12
For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord. Romans 6:23
[Jas 4:6 NKJV] 6 But He gives more grace. Therefore He says: "God resists the proud, But gives grace to the humble."
[Zec 4:6 NKJV] 6 So he answered and said to me: "This [is] the word of the LORD to Zerubbabel: 'Not by might nor by power, but by My Spirit,' Says the LORD of hosts.
But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. Romans 5:8
“For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. John 3:16
Step 2 Repent from my selfish ways
By celebrating the Passover and leaving Egypt the Jews turned from their own way and followed God into a new life.
Pride and unbelief are hindering me from entering into his rest. It kept the people in the desert. It keeps me from living in victory. It kept them from being able to enter the promise Land.
Revelation 3:16 - we believe we have need of nothing...we are called to repent
Jesus began to preach and to say, “Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.” Matthew 4:17
if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation Romans 10:9-10
Revelation 3: 20 "Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and dine with him, and he with Me.
Mark 6: 5 Now He could do no mighty work there, except that He laid His hands on a few sick people and healed [them]. - Jesus was amazed at their unbelief.
Hebrews 3:12 Beware, brethren, lest there be in any of you an evil heart of unbelief in departing from the living God;
Hebrews 3:19 So we see that they could not enter in because of unbelief.
For “whoever calls on the name of the LORD shall be saved.” Romans 10:13
Step 3 Seek to Know God, His Character, and His Ways
So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God. Romans 10:17
All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness,that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work. 2 Timothy 3:16-17
Experience victory as we live in Humility and Faith
Romans 7:24-25 O wretched man that I am! Who will deliver me from this body of death? 25 I thank God--through Jesus Christ our Lord! So then, with the mind I myself serve the law of God, but with the flesh the law of sin.
Proverbs 3:5 Trust in the LORD with all your heart, And lean not on your own understanding;
2 Corinthians 3:5-6 Not that we are sufficient of ourselves to think of anything as [being] from ourselves, but our sufficiency [is] from God, 6 who also made us sufficient as ministers of the new covenant, not of the letter but of the Spirit; for the letter kills, but the Spirit gives life.
Matthew 14:30-31 But when he saw that the wind [was] boisterous, he was afraid; and beginning to sink he cried out, saying, "Lord, save me!" 31 And immediately Jesus stretched out [His] hand and caught him, and said to him, "O you of little faith, why did you doubt?"
Hebrews 12:1-2 Therefore we also, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which so easily ensnares [us], and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, 2 looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of [our] faith, who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.
[saiah 30:1 "Woe to the rebellious children," says the LORD, "Who take counsel, but not of Me, And who devise plans, but not of My Spirit, That they may add sin to sin;
1 John 5:4 For whatever is born of God overcomes the world. And this is the victory that has overcome the world--our faith.
