ch 1-3 The Problem

All of humanity is broken and lost - We seek for satisfaction and woth in the creation instead of the creator

- All of us have now become part of one body for one purpose.
- We are strategically and uniquely different for a purpose.
12-16 The conflict
- Our differences will create divisions.
- We will be hurt by those iin and outside our family
Thinking others lower Chrstans is concietedness

Romans 7
Why the Old testament laws no longer applies to the followers of Jesus.
V4 - OT laws don't apply to those who have died, therefore, by dying to self we have been released from the law.
Matt 5:17-20 Jesus came to fulfill the law.
The Law's purpose was to arouse / show sin in me, and it was given as a blessing to show us how to live right, and a curse because we could not keep many of the 613 of them. Galatians 3:10 - Law was a curse to us as transgressors.
My mind knows the truth but my body wars against it.
My flesh is what is really me. I can fake it and behave well but it takes energy and when I am low on energy my real self comes out.
2 Chronicles 26 - Uzziah - he got powerful and got proud - his epitaph ended up dying a ppauper
I must focus on my flesh as failing me, and blame others or apply external controls. The more I focus on sin on the outside, (judging) James 1:16 - appetite for the lures of the world is in me.
Don't become dissolutioned and cynical about sins power in others and me. Don't become hypocritical and critical. We are all sinners.
When we realize the traitor is there we can focus on Jesus and how to show love to others.

Understanding how and why we were made
1 Samuel 17:16-50 David did not live up to the worlds expectations of a leader but he had a confidence in God.
Giftedness always starts with humility
Humility is not a low view of self but an honest and accurate one. - sober judgement
Our gifts don't make us better than anyone else, just different.
1 Peter 4:10 use your gift to serve others
1 Cor 12: 4,5 - it is the same God that works through all of the various gifts
Our greatest gifts are also our greatest weaknesses.
It's where your pride and ego are and where we feel we need to rely God the least
A gift is simply a gift
Spiritual giftedness does not equal spiritual maturity or God's favor
Our gifts are to be used for the Kingdom, not just for ourselves.
Romans 12 - Larry Osborne 6/4/17
How we ought to live Let love be without hypocrisy. Abhor what is evil. Cling to what is good.
Proverbs 6:16-19
- haughty eyes, ( tendency to see the worst in others and best in mine)
- the person who stirs up division
Evil = our pride, arrogance, selfishness
Hate evil - not just a visceral feeling - to back off or avoid something - we often lick the chocolate covered rat poison
Psalm 1:1 - blessed is the one who does not walk, stand, sit in sin
We can overestimate our ability to hold up against temptation ( Lot chose greed, lost everything, Samson chose lust, lost the Lord's power
Flee Sin
Good - Micah pursue justice,(help helpless) mercy, ( help those who do not deserve) humility (opposite of haughty eyes - compare myself with God first)
Cling - it is a choice - What I think about, Phil 4:8 good, Noble...as a man thinks so he is. What we pursue - Towards righteousness - life is arranged around prioritizing what is good. Who am I hanging around - who am I seeking to impress? Who is influencing me the most?

Romans 15
7-21 Living a life that matters (Chris NCC)
1 Cor 9:19-23, 1 Peter 2;9-12, 2 Peter 3:8-9
, Philippians 2:14-16
Our life is lived for others as much at is for God
We are called to share our experience not win an argument. Paul just shared what had experienced on his own, and how Jesus Christ impacted him.
Where do I stand with God
Who has God put into your life that needs Jesus?
What am I doing to get them to him?
15:22-33 Chris
Responding to difficulty
Paul has a vision for the church to grow
Acts 21-28 Paul is taking the gift from the gentiles to the Jews in Jerusalem hated by Jews in Jerusalem and 40 have set to kill him. Paul is taken to jail for 2 years before being sent to Rome to be tried. For 2 years Paul is in house arrest. Fires happen and Christians are blamed and Paul is beheaded.
God's will is far more relational than rational.
It is about where we are in Christ, not about where we are in life. Paul's purpose was to share God with others...seek first the kingdom.
Romans 12:1-2 Therefore ...offer your bodies a living sacrifice to live for Him.
Our goal in life should be how we live it, not where we end up.
James 4:17... don't say what you will do but only what the Lord will.
Pray for your wants and desires.
Surrender to God regardless of the outcome.
Pray for closed doors when everything seems wide open
16 Greetings and acknowledgements
These are letters to real people
It was written for me not to me
Christianity is a team sport
We are on a group project to serve God better.
There are no little people. Prominent and slaves all acknowledged.
Paul would have failed had he not had a body of believers playing their role.
