I love how Christ used analogies that helped people better understand the kingdom, the church, and salvation. They help me connect truth with daily life. From time to time an analogy comes to mind for me which helps me better understand my faith;
Barnacles on a sailboat - I like to sail, and the lighter the boat, and the properly positioned sail, will allow you to capture the power of the wind and move with power.
As we live our life, every day we hear lies about how we should live. Our culture and media tell us to find satisfaction and comfort in our own power and possessions. God tells us to find our satisfaction in His power and provision for us. Every day we hear messages to be dissatisfied with what possessions we have, to watch out for ourselves and fight to be at the head of the line, to hold grudges, to focus our life on earthly pleasures and to bury our pain by escaping real life through distracting addictions. These lies are like barnacles on a boat that attach themselves to us daily and over time begin to drag us down into the sea of life. We don't realize it but we begin to feel "under water" and wonder why we feel that way.
This is why it takes daily scrubbing of our minds with scripture. We need to read, write, carry, memorize, mediate on scripture and it's truths. This begins the slow process of scrubbing off the lies and allowing us to sail with the full power of the Holy Spirit who is the wind in our sails.
