Park at Tretower Court. Alernatively you may park in Cwmdu at the Mynydd Ddu Cafe (01874 731077) or Farmers Arms (01874 731077) with permission.
- From Tretower Court return up to the main road and turn left. Keep to the left-hand pavement to the end of the village. Carry on for about ¼ mile as far as the ‘SLOW’ marker on the road. Take great care on this stretch as the traffic can be fast moving.
- Cross the road, and standing as if you were going to continue up the road, look for a a restricted byway (green lane) waymarker on your right. Continue along the lane for approximately 1 mile - there are some very old oaks on this section. Join a tarmac lane and carry straight on.
- Passing Cwmdu campsite on your left carry on downhill through the village to the church. Turn left and go down to the Farmers Arms and the main Talgarth road. (There are also refreshments at the Mynydd Ddu caf down the road. If you park here, go up the road and take the 1st left, then follow the directions as below.)
- Cross the road with care and take the road opposite, cross the bridge over the Rhiangoll and continue on this country lane as far as the hamlet of Felindre.
- If Felindre, cross the narrow old bridge on the left to look at the weir and the old Welsh school on the right. Retrace your steps to the lane and turn left. After a few yards take the footpath/stile on the left where the road turns sharply away to the right.
- Go diagonally through this field, between two oaks, to a stile in the far corner. Note the old millhouse and leat to the left in this field. Go past the driveway to Lower Mill and take the bridleway straight ahead for about 1 mile - which can be very overgrown.
- Go round a hard right bend, pass a huge oak tree, leave the green lane and cross the stile on the left signposted Tretower. Cross 2 fields, keeping the stream and hedge on your right, then follow the footpath sign into field on the right.
- Tretower Court and castle is now ahead of you. Hedge is now on your left. Head to stile in far hedge, then cross field to the far gate and join road. Carry on straight past the old Zoar chapel towards the village. At the church turn right back to the car park, or alternatively take a walk around the church - there is an information board next to the village hall.
