Goose and Cuckoo, Upper Llanover car park. Phone 01873 880277 to ask the landlady for permission.
- From the Goose and Cuckoo car park walk uphill crossing a bridge over a stream. the road becomes a rough track. A few yards after the waymark pointing to Cwmavon and Blaenavon, turn right to join forestry track (do not go up through gate on left). There are good views from here if you turn to look behind you.
- Continue zig-zagging up the forestry track through felled forestry to a gate. Turn left up the open mountain road and go through gate next to cattle grid. pass footpath on the right that crosses the mountain to the Foxhunter car park on the Blorenge. Carry on down to the next bridleway on the left just above the community woodland and parking area.
- Here a rough path begins - carry on keeping woodland to your right. On a good day there are views to the Brecon Beacons and Bristol Channel. Eventually you will see a radio mast ahead on the right. Just before this there is a crossroads of two bridleways. Take the left path.
- (Before turning left there is an option to walk a further half-mile straight on to see a llama farm on your right then return to the crossroads. This adds a mile and approximately ½ hour to the walk. To do this turn right at the crossroads.)
- Walking slightly uphill on this section, ignore any sheep paths to the right and left. This path eventually leads down between two dry stone walls with a good view of the Skirrid in front of you. Continue to a gate, cross a track and continue downhill along wall. The path becomes more rocky as you continue down the green lane through large beech trees.
- Cross forestry track an continue down the green lane to the road and then back to the pub. Alternatively turn left to return via the forestry track to get back to the pub.
