Grwyne Fawr valley was famous for its paper mills in the 18th and 19th centuries. Because of the water quality the colours and quality of the paper was very special. They made bright blues etc. for wrapping grocery products etc.
Golden Grove mills by the campsite are Grade II listed buildings.
They used wood pulp and old rags to create the paper, which was processed by using water power from the river. Sheets of drying paper were hung in the building with louvered sides to allow air to circulate.
There was also a mill at Millbrook House.
